Chronic Stress Leads To Adrenal Fatigue

Stress is public enemy number one. While small amounts of stress are necessary for life and can actually help keep our immune systems sharp, as well as help keep you alive in dangerous situations, chronic stress is absolutely insidious. Unfortunately, our modern world, with all of its trappings and convenience, is also fraught with high amounts of stress. Chronic stress has been linked to almost every health condition you can think of, from headaches, migraines, digestive issues, and heart attacks all the way to adrenal fatigue, insomnia, advanced aging, and a plethora of autoimmune diseases.

What Is The HPA Axis & Its Role In Adrenal Fatigue?

Let me tell you about the ‘HPA Axis’. When you’re stressed, your hypothalamus is the part of your brain that recognizes it. To put it straightforwardly and simply, your hypothalamus signals your pituitary gland, and they both in turn signal your adrenals to produce and release stress hormones. This is the basis of what is referred to as your HPA (Hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal) axis. While throughout human history, this has enabled us to effectively respond to stress by engaging the ‘fight or flight’ response, these days our high stress, modern environment, full of traffic, work, and financial, and even stress from chronic health issues keep the HPA axis engaged constantly in a huge portion of our population.

HPA Axis Dysfunction Leads to Adrenal Fatigue

Stress-induced HPA Axis dysfunction leads to adrenal fatigue and adrenal burnout. When your adrenals are constantly being signaled by your brain to produce stress hormones, not only is this incredibly unhealthy for your overall health, affecting your mood, sleep, libido, immune system, blood sugar, appetite, thyroid, and much more, it’s also terribly taxing to your adrenal glands and micronutrient reserves. Your adrenal glands have to work incredibly hard to keep up with the demand for constantly being engaged, which can fatigue them and lead to adrenal dysfunction and burnout. It’s also perilous for micronutrient reserves! Vitamin C, trace minerals, magnesium, B vitamins, antioxidants, and more are all involved in producing this seemingly never-ending demand for stress hormones. To compound matters, many adults already have suboptimal or insufficient levels of these micronutrients needed to produce stress hormones.

Is The Stress Hormone Cortisol A Friend or Foe?

Most of you have heard of cortisol by now. It’s one of the main hormones produced by the adrenal glands in response to sustained stress. As we discussed above, cortisol can help keep us alive in truly dangerous situations. Whether you’re running from a hungry tiger or enduring a famine with no food to eat. However, cortisol dysregulation in response to everyday sustained stress can quite literally destroy your health. Chronically elevated cortisol leads to suppressed immunity, weight gain and fat storage, blood sugar imbalance, muscle wasting, sex hormone dysregulation, and much more.

Adaptogens Are The Building Blocks of Adrenal Support

Adaptogens support balanced cortisol production and a normal stress response to promote whole-body health. Adaptogens are a class of herbs that have been used throughout the world for thousands of years. First written about in the ancient Indian form of medicine called Ayurveda, they have also been extensively used in ancient Chinese medicine and throughout Asia. Today we know that adaptogenic herbs actually help support a balanced and healthy response to stress, and balanced and normal stress hormone and cortisol production. Adaptogens also help modulate cellular sensitivity to stress hormones, thereby encouraging a more robust and healthy response to stress overall.

Adrenal Support: A Potent Combination of Adaptogenic Herbs & Nutrients

I formulated my new Adrenal Support formula to not only include a variety of the most effective and well-researched adaptogenic herbs, but I’ve also included L-Tyrosine, an amino acid needed to support catecholamine production, which is crucial for those dealing with chronic stress. Furthermore, I’ve included Vitamin C, and the B vitamins Riboflavin, Vitamin B6, and Pantothenic Acid, all in bioavailable forms as they are critical for adrenal hormone production and to support overall adrenal gland health.

FAQs

Is Adrenal Support safe for children?

While there are no ingredients in my Adrenal Support formula that are contraindicated for children, I still recommend working with your child’s pediatrician before starting supplementation with children under 12 so that your child’s age, weight, health history, and current medications and supplements can all be taken into account when making a decision.

Is Adrenal Support okay to take for women who are pregnant or nursing?

While there are no ingredients in my Adrenal Support formula that are known to be contraindicated during pregnancy and nursing, I strongly advise you to work with your qualified healthcare provider before using this product as there is simply not a great deal of data in using some of these herbs during pregnancy and nursing.

Can Adrenal Support be taken if you have high or low cortisol levels?

Adaptogens are named so because they have the ability to help the body adapt to stress. Sometimes the adrenals need to be tuned up slightly to enhance energy and focus, other times the stress response needs to be tuned down in the face of ongoing stressors. Because of the unique ability of adaptogens to help the body adapt in this way, my Adrenal Support formula is ideal for those experiencing the height of adrenal stress and high cortisol, or the aftermath of extended periods of stress and low energy and cortisol.
